Beam me up..1960s style

It's really fun watching the original Star Trek.
So cheesy, yet so hard to look away.
Basically,I'm really enjoying William Shatner in his heyday.

It's pretty funny how hard they tried to make him seem virile and passionate.
His shirt has already come off several times, and he seems to get sweaty and dramatic really easily.

I suppose I'll go see the new movie eventually, but for now I much prefer this.

The special effects aren't really that bad, and it's fun to see how creative set design/costume people had to be when they couldn't rely on CGI (have I ranted enough about CGI overuse?).

Finals are getting in the way of my tv watching, but maybe I'll make Star Trek my summer project.

Such a lofty goal I know.

And finally, my response to the whole Orlando Gardens fiasco

This is the e-mail I sent to Michael Orlando:

Dear Mr. Orlando,

My name is SasZ and you helped me plan and book the Faith Aloud (formerly MORCRC) banquet last year. I just wanted to register my personal shock and dismay over your recent denouncement of our organization and work.

While I recognize the importance of living faithfully and the impact this can have on your business practices, I truly believe that helping women and families navigate these personal health decision is important, moral, and even faithful work.

Although I am no longer a staff member at Faith Aloud as I am now attending graduate school in another state, I have strong ties to the Saint Louis community. I regret to inform you that I will no longer be recommending your services, and will be my friends and family to boycott Orlando Gardens.

Respectfully,

SasZ

The Faith Aloud response to Orlando Gardens

I just wanted to re-post Rev. Rebecca Turner's response to the decision of Orlando Gardens to no longer serve pro-choice organizations..

Dear Mr. Orlando:

I was quite shocked and disappointed to receive your email stating that you would no longer welcome our business simply because we are a pro-choice organization. It is disappointing that you would give in to angry protesters carrying hostile signs about your business rather than supporting the paying customers who were well-behaved.

On the St. Louis Catholic blog, it quotes you as saying you will no longer provide services to Planned Parenthood. We are not Planned Parenthood and never have been. We are an organization of religious groups and individuals. At the banquet were dozens of clergy. There were also many politicians and directors of several other non-profit agencies. They are all quite dismayed to hear of your announcement and many have vowed to remove their business from you.

It seems to me it would have been very easy for you to tell the detractors that you cannot check the political and religious status of your customers. But instead you've publicly declared that you can't serve pro-choice organizations. That list is so much longer than you probably realize.

I am saddened for the position in which you have placed yourself and saddened that we will not be enjoying the excellent services provided by your wonderful staff.

We will have no difficulty finding another banquet center who will welcome our business.

Sincerely,

Rev. Rebecca Turner

Guess I'm now boycotting Orlando Gardnes in STL

How frustrating.

You know how I used to work @ Faith Aloud?

Well, I'm still a huge fan although (sadly) no longer a current staff member.

I helped find the venue for our awards banquet two years ago, and they used the same location this past April.

Well, after some pressure from the local Catholic church the owner of the banquet hall has decided to no longer offer his services to Faith Aloud & other pro-choice organizations.

My letter to come..
